Welcome to the Orient Nouveau

About

Step into an oriental age that danced to the beat of its own drum. Back when jazz was swinging into 1920s Osaka, bringing modern art and western fashions with it. The result? A culture clash to challenge traditional values and ignite a new golden era, not seen before or since.

Mimi Kakushi embodies this brave new world to bring you a dining experience like no other. Independent, expressive, limitless. It blends time-honored cuisine with new thinking, serving far eastern flavors you’ll recognize with western influences you’ll love.

A TASTE OF THE EAST.

THE RHYTHM OF THE WEST.

A taste of the East.

The rhythm of the West.

Mimi Kakushi (耳隠し)

Introduced in 1922 as one of the new yo-hatsu Western hairstyles the name translates directly as “covering ears”. This modern ‘bob’ popular among the fashionable young Moga (Modern Girls) marked a turning point in hair fashion as it was the first popular hairstyle with asymmetry.

Longing for the past when the streets in Ginza were lined with willow trees.

A young beauty becomes a nobody with age.

Dance to the jazz music and down liquor into the night.
And the rain that is the tears of the dancers will sprinkle at the break of dawn.

Lyrics from Tokyo March (1929)
